Sabbath

Sunday I went over to my brother and sister-in-law's to hang out in the afternoon and watch the Kentucky game (which we won, by the way).  I ended spending more time taking pictures of my niece than I did watching the game, but I'm not complaining.

Isn't she cute?

She learned how to crawl while I was away over Spring break.

This is in my Sister-in-law's kitchen.  I was shooting in Manual mode and this picture came out overexposed and with an odd white balance, but I like it, I mean, she has a butter dish shaped like a Rhino, how could you not like it?

After the Kentucky game was over, I went with my sister-in-law to her sisters' house to paint easter eggs.

Laura, my sister-in-law.

We made Ukrainian Easter eggs, which are quite a bit more exciting than conventional ones.  I made one, but I'm saving the picture for Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

However, here's a picture of a different one, isn't it pretty?

Heh, Ashley and Ella.

And a more normal one for Ashley's sake.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Alrighty folks, it's that time of the week again.  That time when folks young and old flock to see. . .Scavenger Hunt Sunday!

*Ahem*

Moving on. . .
Here are this week's contestants. . .

Decay:
*Warning: Slightly Cheating Picture Ahead*  This picture isn't really cheating. . . you just can't see the decay, but it's there.  I promise.  The buildings are part of a granary and they're pretty old.  Let's just say that I don't think that they would pass any safety inspections.

Groups of Three:
This is the picture I originally took for 'decay,' but I ended up wanting to use the picture of the granary also, and since this worked for 'groups of three,' I switched it up a little.

Kitchen:
I think that having (at least) one 'meh' picture every week is going to become a pattern.  However, the pretzels that my roommate is making in this picture were most definitely *not* meh.  Yummmm.

Things that Make You Go "Hmmmmm:"
I had some trouble with this one because I wasn't sure what kind of 'hmmmm' we were talking about.  I say 'hmmm' to a lot of things.  Weird things, intriguing things, things I see and want to make, things I see and never want to see again, etc.  I ended up choosing this picture because it intrigued me.  I found this mail sticker stuck to a light pole on my walk home from school.  I'm wondering if someone from my school stuck it there. In the corner, someone wrote in the word 'aves' which in Latin means birds.  And since Latin is a required course at my school, well. . .

"Me" Time:
On Friday I ended up having more time to prepare in the morning than I had planned for because the quiz I would have needed to prepare for was canceled.  I decided to do something with my hair, which was rather daunting/exciting since I'm the type of girl that struggles with putting her hair in a bun (I'm really not kidding.  Sad, but true).  Anyway, I found a link to this tutorial for a braid crown on a fashion blog I follow, and decided to step outside of my comfort zone and try it.  It didn't really turn out anything like the tutorial, but I was still pretty happy with the results.  Can anybody say "self-portrait time?" *guitar riff*

*KA-POW*

And there you have it, folks.  Join us again next week for another edition of (drum roll please) SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY.

Photo Challenge

So, I'm entering the Fabulous Friday photo challenge.  The only rule is that it should be your favorite shot of the week.  I thought it might be fun to participate.

Although picking a 'favorite shot' is always hard, for me anyway, this week has been really light on the photos, so it wasn't too hard to narrow it down to this one.  I don't know what it is about it, but I really like it.  I also chose this shot because I like how the square crop worked out.  I haven't really ever used it before, although I've *tried* to do it a few times, it's never looked good.

Light Painting

Lately I've been seeing a lot of light painting and I wanted to try it out, so I borrowed my roommate's tripod and my cell phone and tried out some long exposures.

Butterfly

Flower, maybe?

. . .AND my name.  It's in there somewhere.

Happy Birthday!

So, today is my little sister's birthday.  Yuppers.  She's getting so old *sniff.*  Anyway, while I was home for spring break, I took some pictures of her as a birthday present.  Here're some of my favorites.

Been Making Some Changes Around Here. . .

So, you've probably noticed that the blog has changed a little, or maybe a lot. Although I did stick with the flying birds.  I think I'm a wee bit partial to them.

I really wanted to be able to post larger pictures and my other template wouldn't allow that.  I also didn't think that the other one looked at all professional and since I'm probably going to end up using this partly as a portfolio blog, I wanted something that looked like it took at least a leetle bit of effort.

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep everything as it is right now, but it probably won't change too much.  Anywho, comments and opinions are definitely much appreciated. : )

And now, since this is a photography blog, some pictures.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

So, this is my first time doing the Scavenger Hunt Sundays, but I thought it might be a fun challenge.

Camera Phone:
Booooring.  I know.  I was planning a different picture, but I ended up traveling all day yesterday and didn't have time to take it.

Camera:
My lamp's reflection in a lens.

Shoes:
I took my sister and her fiance's engagement pictures this week.  This is one of my favorites.

Chair:
Bella-boo.  Yes there's a chair there too.

Imperfection:
Another shot from the engagement shoot.  This is also one of my favorites, even though it's blurry and definitely not perfect.

Hah

Just a little something to make your day better.

. . .And no, my littlest sister doesn't really look like baby Frankenstein.
